June 1st 2020

Hello Yamaha Parents,

Online Through June

We have decided to keep all group classes online for the month of June. Our plan is to resume in-person group classes in August, with specific guidelines for safety. We will announce those later this summer.

Summer Testing

Summer Testing has an in-person and online option this year! Thank you very much for taking the time to answer our survey, so that we can set up those times.

Please read below for our policies on in-person testing:

Strict scheduling rules that control the amount of students in the school at the time.

Students and parents are required to stand in the sun for 3 minutes before entering the building.

When they enter, they will wash their hands for 20 seconds.

The lobby will stay closed.

Students will enter the classroom for their exams/tests alone and observe social distancing with the examiners.

Keyboards and all materials will be disinfected in between each student.

Parents who travel routinely for work will be asked to participate online.

If you are feeling sick, you will be required to take an online exam.

You will receive more information about how to sign up for these exams soon in an email from the office.

We are also so excited about our Webex Teams for Grade Exam. If your child is taking a Grade Exam this year, there are tons of free videos available to them through Webex Teams for them to practice and master the skills they need to excel in this year's testing. Remember, you can always ask your teacher for help using the General Space in your child's private or group lesson Webex Team.

Summer Recitals

All Summer Recitals will take place online. Please look for an announcement in the coming weeks with specific instructions for getting your child ready for this event as well as sharing the event safely with family and friends throughout the world. :)

Summer Camps

We will offer our three wonderful summer camps this year: Music Theatre, Jr Music Immersion, and Music Immersion. Music Theatre will take place completely online July 6th-10th. Jr & Music Immersion camps will have an online and in person option July 13th-17th. Click here for more information and to reserve your spot.

Wishing you health, happiness, and beautiful music!

March 21st 2020

Hello Yamaha Parents,

No Classes Today. We start online classes next week. You should have received a very first invitation to your child's class. All this does is confirm that you are set and ready to go for next week.

You will receive another email next week 15 minutes before your child's regular class time. You will be able to join the meeting when your teacher starts the meeting. Plan on the first 10 minutes of class to be spent making sure everyone is ready to go on the platform- think of it as our usual 10 minutes at the beginning of our 50 minute class that we spend checking homework and answering questions.

In the meantime- enjoy this sneak peak video of what online classes will look like and sign in to your Google Teams account. Teachers will be posting homework, special assignments, and talking to you about class through that platform. You don't want to miss anything!

March 19th 2020

Hello Yamaha Parents,

Our next round of trial virtual classes went well today. Look out for an email in your inbox tomorrow with information on how to get ready for our online lessons starting on Monday. We are working out all the kinks so that classes will go smoothly next week.

We have decided that for next week, all group classes will only take place online. We will continue to update you as the situation unfolds. We are dedicated to keeping you and your children healthy and will do everything we can to ensure that first and foremost.

Hope you are all happy and well!

That video we promised of the virtual classes will be uploaded tomorrow, apologies for the delay.

March 18th 2020

Hello Yamaha Parents,

We are currently setting up our online platform- we are so excited to share it with you :) Please make sure to FILL OUT THE FORM we sent you yesterday in your email so that we can include you. Here is the direct link if you need it: https://forms.gle/kdnikWh38qWCgJ5s9

If you already sent the form- no need to fill it out again.

Get ready to create music together online! We will post a video here tomorrow with a sneak peek of our brand new online learning space (it's pretty amazing and students will be able to see their friends through it).

Thank you so much for your continued support and care for your Yamaha Family in this hard time. And a big thank you to our Yamaha students who have acted as our beta testers yesterday and today- you guys rock!

We are always looking for that silver lining and for ways to make your Yamaha education better.

Stay safe, healthy, and filled with music!

See you next week. :)

March 15th 2020

Dear Yamaha Families,

Thank you for your emails. Each of your concerns and questions have been heard. This is our plan to continue your child's music education and enjoyment through the current coronavirus situation.

For the week of March 16th- 21st there will be no classes or private lessons.

Starting Monday March 23rd, parents will have the option to resume group and private lessons in person or online. We are currently testing a few online platforms and will contact you later this week with more information.

As we go forward, we will have mandatory hand washing and will be disinfecting all keyboards, benches, chairs, doorhandles, and surfaces after each class or lesson. The bathrooms and waiting room will be cleaned hourly. We will carefully follow all the guidelines of the CDC. For students age 7 and up, we are asking parents to drop students off to keep the numbers in each room smaller. We will also utilize the outside doors of each classroom to enter and exit the group lessons.

Families who have traveled to any level three countries during spring break are asked to complete a voluntary fourteen day quarantine before coming to class. *see below for list of level 3 countries*

Children or adults who are sick should not attend class.

To make up for the week of March 16th-21st, we will alter our summer schedule as follows:

Music Appreciation will condense into the week of July 13th-18th. Children in this category will choose one four hour mini music camp during that week. The make-up week will move to July 20th-24th with late Skill Survey on July 25th. Normal classes resume July 27th.

The City of Chandler has cancelled all events at Chandler Center of the Arts until April 30th. We are planning to have our Ensemble Concert at the end of August. All concert fees and outfits will be used for that event.

Please refer to the World Health Organization https://www.who.int and the CDC website https://www.cdc.gov to keep up to date on the virus.

Yamaha School is our place of harmony, expression, and joy through music. Even now we are looking for the silver linings in this situation and are planning to come out of it stronger and better than ever.

Stay safe and happy,

Heidi Grimes & Your Yamaha Family
